The Time Of The Great Depression - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 787 Downloads: 6 Date added: 2019/05/13 Category History Essay Level High school Tags: Great Depression Essay Did you like this example? The dark time of poverty and hunger characterized the Great Depression. Americas economy had fallen and created a devastating fallout that knocked down every other countrys economy. Every country had to fend for themselves. America villainized its president, Hoover. They accused him of the depression and stood against him. FDR joined as the next president. There are different views on whether FDR actually propelled America out of the Great Depression. FDR didnt do enough to help the economy during the Great Depression because the cycle of poverty created by it was too difficult to fix. The Great Depression was a massive ordeal and was not easily solved. FDR could only create a certain amount of jobs. Unemployments hand touched over eight million people, much more than what FDR could provide. The cycle of poverty released a vicious unrelenting attack against the people of America. The lack of incoming money forced the companies to lay off people to be able to maintain their money. This, in turn, created more people who found themselves unable to spend money. In fact, in the year 1937, the unemployment rate actually went up(Great Depression and New Deal lecture). Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Time Of The Great Depression" essay for you Create order After his first term, many people had disagreed with how he worked. The country faced a great disparity. Some people said that he hadnt done enough. Some said he did too much. He couldnt make anything too radical, because it wouldnt be accepted. The judiciary branch took down his NRA and AAA plans. The people had given him a broken machine and limited his tools to fix it with. The judiciary branch gave him trouble. FDR decided that he would try to fight them so he could get what he needed. He urged for a deal to make it easier for him to solve the depression. However, his counterattack met swift opposition of people suspecting a plan for a power grab. This limitation almost killed his chances of fixing the solution. FDR attempted from so many different methods to fix this monumental problem but found himself every time at the same dead end. He spent most of his second term fighting the supreme court. Not much got done, and some economists have pointed that if he had not made some of the acts he made the economy should have righted itself three years earlier than when the Great Depression actually ended. His fight against the supreme court showed the unwinnable fight that wasted time and threatened the balance of democracy through checks and balances. People found themselves homeless and Roosevelt ignored them to fight the supreme court(Family Walking on Highway 1936), maybe to actually make America like Germanys Nazi party. In fact, Roosevelts predecessor, Hoover, probably caused us to view Roosevelt as a hero because Hoover treated the people poorly. Hoover underestimated the problem and caused the country to hate him(The Century Americas Time). He even mentioned thinking that the Great Depression would end within a few months. The country turned against him and his reluctance to provide support. Roosevelt promised to bring a New Deal. When a country is going through a depression, an attitude of reluctance and rule-following is not necessarily the best course of action. The country was poor and cared less about what was morally right and more about remaining alive. The Great Depression didnt end until World War II, a product of the Great Depressions effects on Germany. War is truly the only thing that could kick America out of the dark rut they were stuck in. World War II freed up the economy. War brings abundance profit. Jobs were available as the able young American man rushed out to fight in the war leaving the workplace abandoned. The forces needed ammunition and weapons to protect them, so many factory jobs opened. If Roosevelt had truly ended the Great Depression then it would have ended much sooner. The Great Depression definitely wouldnt have lasted a whole decade. The best Roosevelt could do was provide hope and slow their fall. World War II proved to be the only thing that could repair the economy. The Great Depression appeared as an impossible task to fix. Especially with the limited tools given to him through the checks and balances system. He was stuck fighting battles against the supreme court and was not able to make as much progress. People viewed highly of him because he was because of the comparison between him and his predecessor. The Great Depression ended with World War II and it wouldnt have taken ten years if FDR truly fixed the problem. The problem seemed just too big for him to handle, so FDR couldnt possibly do enough to fix the broken mess America found itself in.

Claudio As A Young And Inexperienced Count And His Immaturity
Claudio is a young and inexperienced count and his immaturity is evident. His love for Hero is true, but their relationship was unstable throughout the play. Claudio is gullible and easily influenced by others. Claudioââ¬â¢s inconsistency of opinion enables the central plot in Much Ado About Nothing. Claudio claimed to have feelings for Hero when he first met her, but it was not until after the war that he acted upon those feelings. Claudio asked Benedick how he felt about Hero (I.i.155-162). Claudio wanted to know Benedickââ¬â¢s opinion of Hero before Claudio admitted to his liking of her. Claudio cares about otherââ¬â¢s opinions and is easily swayed. When Don Pedro and Benedick agree that Hero is a modest lady, it gives Claudio permission to fall completely in love with her. Claudio is a passionate person, so when he has feelings about something, he feels deeply. His love for Hero is strong, but others can easily manipulate his love. Don Pedro offers to help Claudio court Hero. (II.i.162) Claudio trusts his friend to help him. Don John took away that trust rapidly by simply telling Claudio that Don Pedro was courting Hero for himself. Claudio is gullible and believes the lie without hesitation. When Claudio asks for proof, Don John claims he heard Don Pedro admit his love for Hero. One piece of questionable evidence is plenty to make Claudio furious. Claudio declares his friendship with Don Pedro invalid and loathes Hero. Claudioââ¬â¢s passion fluctuates from love to hate instantaneously

Consumer Decision Making Process Arabella Case Study
Question: Discuss about the Consumer Decision Making Process for Arabella Case Study. Answer: Consumer decision-making process Mehta and Dixit (2006, p. 205), described the consumer-decision making process in five main stages. Similarly, these stages apply to Arabellas case. These are: Identifying the problem: Arabella faced the challenge of having a personal computer which would help her access the internet and work from home conveniently instead of traveling to the University campus on weekends and at night. Obtaining relevant information: Arabella was able to get information about computers from her friends, Emma, Sarah, and Cordelia. More information was obtained from Norman Computer Superstore and the advertisements from the brochures. Evaluating alternatives: Based on the information achieved, Arabella had to evaluate the best desktop computer. She evaluated Dense, Hal, IQ Marquee and Glade brands. Evaluation involves drawing conclusions from a study or research. (Hansel and Hofmann, 2016, p. 9). Finally, she had to make a choice between IQ and Hal. Purchasing: After considering the previous stages, Arabella was motivated and decided to buy the IQ Marquee computer for it had the very specifications she was after. It had good graphics, higher RAM and faster processor which could multi-task. Post-purchase Behavior: It is testing the effectiveness of the product by the buyer. In this case, buying an IQ PC caused disappointment to Arabella for it was not able to connect to the Oz Email Server due to modem malfunction. 2. Level of involvement It refers to the degree of processing information and considering the importance the consumer will get after buying a particular product. (Thukral and Mindak, 2015, p. 72). As a consumer, I would not have behaved like Arabella. Based on the information from her friends, they explained their experiences for the computers, but none of them had used IQ Marquee PC. Cordelia had confirmed and praised that Hal worked well for her. I could have purchased Hal instead of IQ PC. 3. Reacting to faulty purchase. I would consider the guarantee and warrant of the IQ PC. I could take it back immediately to the seller for a refund, repair or replace it with Hal. The customer always has the right to reject faulty goods (May, Monga, and Kalaignanam, 2015, p. 260). However, if the product does not have any warrant, I could consider the Consumer Rights Act and claim for the refund or repair of the faulty IQ PC. If the cost of the defective product is lower, I will consider its repair cost. If the total cost is higher than the original buying price, I will reject the product. Alternatively, if the total is lower or equal to buying price, I would purchase the product and take it to be fixed. 4.Manager of IQ customer care I would order the staff to scrutinize the product first and check whether the problem is related to the manufacturer or the buyer, Arabella, physically interfered with it. If it were the manufacturers fault, I would ask the staff to request Arabella whether she would like the IQ Marquee repaired or replaced. I would not encourage refund, but other alternatives would be better. 5.Effective complaint handling procedure According to Chalmers (2016, p. 572), this procedure is divided into three processes. These process include: Frontline resolution: This deals with complaints which are easy and straightforward. They can be resolved by quickly and do not require much detail. Investigation complaints: It is applied to the grievances which are beyond frontline resolution. In most cases, they are said to be complex and are handled by the senior management. Independent external review: The cases which arise from the service providers are tackled in this stage. These are complaints which are beyond management control. They originate from manufacturers and service providers fault. 6.Options for consumer responses Reduced prices and discounts: Prices can be minimized and discounts provided to entice customers. This act can be done on holidays and weekends. Consumers will be more satisfied if they purchase goods at lower prices. Quality: Better level of excellence of a product will provide more satisfaction. For example, high-speed computers will make work easier and convenient to the buyer. After-sale services: May includes packing goods in cartons or ferrying goods to buyers car. References Mehta, R., and Dixit, G., 2016. Islam and its impact free essay sample
A look at the role and significance of Islam in Muslim society. This paper focuses on the impact that the Islamic religion and the Muslim society have had on its followers. The paper uses Gellners works to show that in Islamic society the term law has a wider significance than it does in the modern secular West, because Islamic law includes both legal and moral imperatives. The paper also proves Islam can be considered the religion which has succeeded most in integrating the power of government with the power of religion. The paper also looks at another author, Peters, who shows that any social structures that can be perceived in Islam are based on tribal rather than state institutions and that lineal descent is of paramount importance in Muslim society. Finally, secularization in Muslim societies and countries is touched upon. In his ethnography of a village in southern Lebanon, Peters says that there are ranked differences between people. How to Organize Your Financial Paperwork in 10 Minutes
How to Organize Your Financial Paperwork in 10 Minutes Itââ¬â¢s almost tax time, but your desk is a nightmare zone and your financial papers are scattered everywhere. You have no idea how to pull together all your necessary documents, so you put it off- and delay your tax return!- for weeks, if not months. Hereââ¬â¢s a 5-point plan for you to change all that. And it should only take you 10 minutes a week.1. Knowledge is powerKnowing what you need is the most important step to having an organized financial filing system. You want to keep everything just in case of an audit, but you canââ¬â¢t keep everything- or youââ¬â¢ll be buried in paper and end up a hoarder. Hereââ¬â¢s a better system:Keep for 1 year: pay stubs, paid bills, bank records, investment statements. Once you get your W2, you can ditch the pay stubs (after you cross-check them to make sure everything is accurate). And unless you need your bills or bank statements for business purposes, you can shred those once a year.Keep for 3 years: tax returns, charitable g ift receipts, mutual fund reports, and other supporting documentation. The only exceptions are initial purchase documents of stocks or mutual funds and house records for as long as you live there or own the property.Keep for 7 years: any documents related to a loss claim for worthless securities or a bad debt deduction. And if you rely on cash tips or donââ¬â¢t report up to 25% of your gross income, hang on to your records for at least 6 years.à 2. Make 3 foldersYouââ¬â¢ve thrown out what you donââ¬â¢t need, now itââ¬â¢s time to organize what you have to keep. Take three empty folders and label them: ââ¬Å"NOW,â⬠ââ¬Å"10 MIN A WEEK,â⬠and ââ¬Å"FILE.â⬠Leave these prominently on your desk and sort things the minute they arrive in the mail.NOW folder: bills to pay, insurance stuff, license renewals, registrations, etc. Once a week, youââ¬â¢ll go through it (hopefully in about 10 minutes or less) and move things into the other folders, or to the shr edder.10 MIN A WEEK folder: subscription renewals, paperwork you canââ¬â¢t complete on your own, etc. These are actionable (but not quite as time sensitive) items. Youââ¬â¢ll sort this stuff once a week. Just donââ¬â¢t let things pile up too much from week to week!FILE folder: Everything you need for the future. This one can get pretty big, especially as the other two shrink. But you can easily move things from this folder into other financial folders in your once-a-week organizing burst.3. Sort tax documents into three sub-foldersOrganize these by year and then divide everything between Income (paystubs, records of honoraria, bonuses, and payments for freelance work), Expenses/Deductions (receipts, statements, paid bills, etc. with sections for business, charitable giving, medical expenses, childcare, etc.- sorting your receipts now will make things much easier to parse come tax time), and Investments (records of contributions to retirement accounts, dividend income, capit al gains, losses, etc., distribution records, and annual statements- even if you donââ¬â¢t need this stuff for this yearââ¬â¢s return, you might need it in the future).4. Go alphabeticalRather than sift through multiple bills under ââ¬Å"Utilities,â⬠try sorting by company name. It will make finding those documents much easier when you need them fast.5. Keep it realWe all have dreams of keeping all of our paperwork out of sight and out of mind, but if you have a place where you naturally dump your mail and where papers tend to pile up, put your organization system there. Most of all, make a schedule and stick to it. If you follow all of the above, you can make a serious organizational difference in just 10 minutes a week. How to Organize Your Paperwork in Just 10 Minutes a Week

How the Macbeth Witches Drive the Plays Plot
How the Macbeth Witches Drive the Play's Plot To say that the witches in William Shakespeares Macbeth play crucial roles in the drama would be an understatement. Without the witches, there would simply be no story to tell, as they move the plot.à The Five Predictions of the Macbeth Witches During the play, the Macbeth witches make five key predictions: Macbeth will become Thane of Cawdor.Banquoââ¬â¢s children will become kings. They advise Macbeth to ââ¬Å"beware Macduff.â⬠Macbeth cannot be harmed by anyone ââ¬Å"of woman born.â⬠Macbeth cannot be beaten until ââ¬Å"Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane shall come.â⬠Four of these predictions are realized during the action, but one is not. Although Banquoââ¬â¢s children do not become kings during the course of the play, they do escape murder and could return at some point in the future. At the end of the play, it is left for the audience members to decide whether they believe the Macbeth witches.à Although the witches appear to have great skill at prophesying, its not certain whether their prophecies are preordained.à If not, do they simply encourage Macbeth to become active in constructing his own fate? It is perhaps part of Macbethââ¬â¢s character to shape his life according to the predictions- whereas Banquo does not. This might explain why the only prophecy not realized by the end of the play relates directly to Banquo and cannot be shaped by Macbeth (although Macbeth would also have little control over the ââ¬Å"Great Birnam Woodâ⬠prediction). The Macbeth Witches Influence The witches in Macbeth are important because they provide Macbethââ¬â¢s call to action. The witches prophesies also affect Lady Macbeth, albeit indirectly when Macbeth writes his wife about seeing the weird sisters, as he calls them. After reading his letter, shes ready right away to plot to murder the king and worries her husband will be too full oà th milk of human kindness to commit such an act. Although he doesnt think he can do such a thing, Ladyà Macbethà has no question in her mind that they would succeed. Her ambition steels him. Thus, the witches influence on Lady Macbeth only increases their effect on Macbeth himself- and, by extension, the entire plot of the play. The Macbeth witches provide the dynamism that has madeà Macbethà one of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s most popular and intenseà plays. How Shakespeare Made the Witches Stand Outà Shakespeareà used a number of devices to create a sense of otherness and malevolence for theà Macbethà witches. For example, the witches speak in rhyming couplets, which distinguishes them from all other characters. This poetic deviceà has made their lines among the plays most memorable. Also, the Macbeth witches are said to have beards, making them difficult to identify as either gender. Last, they are always accompanied by storms and bad weather. Collectively, these traits give them an otherworldly cast. Shakespeares Age-Old Question By writing the Macbeth witches as he did, Shakespeare is asking an age-old question: Are our lives already mapped out for us, or do we have a hand in what happens? At the end of the play, the audience is forced to consider the extent to which the characters have control over their own lives. The debate over free will versus Gods preordained plan for humanity has been debated for centuries and continues to be debated today.

Significance and influences Literature review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Significance and influences - Literature review Example Branding therefor is not a modern business strategy although this is recently subjected into law, not only for regulation but also to institute intellectual property rights to all products introduced in the market (Interband, 2004). Branding is considered very significant for business leveraging. Products are advertised and purchased regularly by consumers using its brand as basis to determine goodââ¬â¢s quality and services offered (Interband, 2004).Those brands that have gain significant figures of loyal consumers increased the value of goodââ¬â¢s production. Quality clothes, milks, shoes, kitchen wares, appliances and the likes are often the most popular brands, thus, business managers handling these products enjoy high return of investment (Interband, 2004). With very good yield coupled with satisfactory business performance, share price can therefore be positively swayed. Branding commands discrimination of purchase. It also justifies increase of productsââ¬â¢ prices us ing the presumption that these are all produced in accordance to quality standards. This experience is true to all pharmaceutical industry, in biotechnology, in liquor and other non-essential goods. At times due to inability of people to purchase these medicines, petitions and protest are done by government by threatening to overrule patents and permit local pharmaceuticals to produce desired medicines (Interband, 2004). Fearing that local competition will affect sales and profit, multinational-pharmaceutical will prefer to cooperate and concede with domestic market requests following negotiations to maintain their leverage and control in the market. Economists have made some guidelines to highlight the significance of branding. Design to protect its brand, trademark polices also include securing the logos, color, names and the features of packaging products, its smells, and even the music used in advertising it (Interband, 2004). Patent and copyright laws have been effective in pro tecting the producerââ¬â¢s universal rights over his products and the method of how these are marketed (Interband, 2004). As customer mostly prefer diversity of products and services that will cater their needs and expectation, companies want to engage in producing different products but are also in consideration to the interest, reputation, and values of its shareholders.
