North Miami Council Meeting Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

North Miami Council Meeting - Essay Example In this report, the meeting I attended was held in Miami city. The city council government organized the meeting among another stakeholder of the regional government. The meeting majorly put more emphasis and addressed some of the major problems affecting its citizens. The meeting was conducted on Tuesday 9th June 2015 in the evening exactly 7.00. as it is the order of every meeting, a role call was briefly performed to ascertain the members who were present and those who are not. The list of those who were absent with apology was noted and at the same time those without apology (Burrill, 1962). Pledge of allegiance by detective Rocio, who works with North Miami police, was conducted, and after that Pastor Gregory Toussaint, who led the tabernacle of glory, put members through invocation. Oath of office administration was the section that carried more attention of the meeting. Dr. Dorothy Bndross Mindingall assisted by the school board manager in District 2 conducted it. Other events preceded this main event. The order of the business has a breakdown of subsections. These subsections were additions and deletions, amendments and deferrals (Burrill, 1962). The meeting had more issues that were to be discussed. Among the questions comprised in the order of the business, individual presentations, city events, hurricane preparedness and consent agenda. The questions that the officials put more emphasis and discussed are the certification and of the results that were returned during the runoff election process. Pursue of this was retrieved from the previous meeting that was held at the same venue. As a council, they proposed the purchase of the order one of new transit to issue in by the police department at the agreed cost. Equipment that was brought up was scheduled to be purchased separately by the council for enforcing the law (Burrill, 1962). Another proposal that was passed

Thoreaus Where Lived And What Lived For Philosophy Essay

Thoreaus Where Lived And What Lived For Philosophy Essay Take a moment and think for a few seconds, what you have done for your typical day. The majority of us would says, we normally rush through our typical daily tasks, or what not, trying to get those accomplished one by one, as much as we could, in a given time. Tasks may differ in each person of different ages, positions, classes or even lifestyles. But those things give us one common thing, a nature of what we called, the chaotic . Then, at the end of the day, we are exhausted with stress from chaos and routines of the day. Very often, we dont have time, or perhaps with lack of willingness, to spend time with our love ones and do things we are passionate about. In the essay Where I lived and what I lived for, Henry David Thoreaus [1817-1862] expression appeals me of the importance and value of living the simple life nature affords, that I believe, it is as necessary now as it was back in his time. I support Thoreaus philosophy and idea of living a simpler life, where one can enjoy ea ch and every activity, where one is content rather than rushing to finish his or her daily chaos. I found Thoreaus writing style is complex and hard to understand throughout in that essay. It has at least 3 to 4 commas in each sentence, which makes me harder to follow all the way though. It seems like Thoreau put his sentences with as much information and words as he could till, as if, they were overflowing from the page. But after a few times repeat reading that, I think I was able to take hold of the basic argument he is trying to make. I discovered Thoreaus Where I lived and what I lived for made a very compelling argument for his going to live in the woods. Many examples have supported his beliefs in that essay. The essay opens with Thoreau seemly stating his purpose for moving to a cabin on Walden Pond. He is claiming the woods to be a supercilious place to live close to life. Throughout his essay, he simplified life to as small possible form as he could. I consent with his argument about simplifying life and cut off those are not essential and the routines that we having in our daily life. Thoreau moves to the woods so as to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and the fact that he wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, (Natural acts 33). Perhaps, even in this recession period, some point every year isolate ourselves and relieve from all the stress we have been carried throughout the year and make our life simpler surrounded by nature. But it might only works for those w ho make the time and have the time, for others, they might not be able to dream about it. His respect to the nature and desire of living simplicity as nature is almost religious and glorify God and enjoy him forever (Natural acts 33). Although disagreed as to whether the world as made by God or the devil, Thoreau has uncertainty about it, he wants to live his life as intensely as possible. Let us spend one day as deliberately as Natureà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ Thoreaus interpretation toward nature is with admiration, adoration and value (33). But it is only the way he sees the nature, not everyone could agree with him, not even the writers who compose about the nature could. Joyce Carol Oatess [b. 1938] expression, in her essay Against Nature(Natural Acts 42), toward the nature the subject is there only by the grace of the authors language makes suggests that we do not need to rely on our senses but we only rely on language for our understanding of our surroundings (45). If on all sides of her was random, wayward, nameless motion, she would not even know herself that: We all are the product of the Mother Nature. Meaninglessness cannot produce the meaning itself. Her belief that Nature is mouth, or may be a single mouth ignores the privileges of birth and the existence of the death (46). The two authors has the same vision on that, Thoreau also state that when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. None the less, I found that they both have a deep philosophical concern about the meaning of life in their essays. Thoreau is pretty much correct in the sense that he makes us out to be robotic go about our day in a tedious way. Mostly, we all have our own routines that we have been followed through big part of our life that we hate to change. Throughout the reading on his essay, the only one thing I dont completely understand was about the train, sleepers and people that line the track, or buried under the track if some have the pleasure of riding on a rail, others have the misfortune to be ridden upon. My best knowledge to understand that is, at the time period he was written this(1854), he means the people who were wealthy enough to ride on the new trains on the new tracks that are traveling all over the country, and the people who cant afford it, had to build the rail tracks for their living. But I dont know the relationship between this and the simplifying our lives, so maybe I still dont understand what he is trying to say. In conclusion, the description of Thoreaus search for eternal truth is perhaps his finest poetry. Life means not just a physical functioning but also eternal fulfillment inside. Where I lived and what I lived for portray nature as the simple way of life. Henry David Thoreau has a main goal, to reverse the blindness of humanity to nature. People day to day strive for obtaining the most wealth, the most foods, the most of everything. Many of us found that, as we grew older, it is not essentially more money or the fame, or the power that make our lives happier. Oftentimes it is the simple things we can do in our lives that lead to achieve the great happiness in life.

The Value of Economics in Everyday Life :: Free Essay Writer

The Value of Economics in Everyday Life It was the strangest thing. It all began on the evening of June 15th 2008. My grandmother passed away. This was weird because no body even knew she was dying. Well maybe it was just her time to go. It was a very rough couple of days. My sisters, my mother and I set up the calling hours for her wake, and the time and place for her funeral. It was vary hard to concentrate on these tasks when one of our loved ones had passed away. About two weeks had passed and things were begging to return to normal. It had been a tremendous loss for our family, but we all knew that we had to get on with our lives. I recall a message that was left on my mother’s answering machine reporting that my grandmother had written a will. It was discovered when all of her things were being cleaned out of her home. Not a single soul within my grandmother’s family knew about this will, so it was a big surprise. The message on the machine clearly stated that the will was going to be opened and read to the family, on July 5, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the county court house. Everyone was anxious to find out just what he had left. No body was expecting much because they knew my grandmother didn’t have very much. She had raised seven children on her own. The day had finally come. It was just about 1:00 p.m. and the will was being opened. It read as follows: â€Å"Well all, I guess it was my time to go. I am in a better place now, where there is no suffering or pain. I need you all to promise me that you will be happy for me. I know it is hard to do, but it is for the best. Now I need you all to take a deep breath for there is something that you all must know. I have been saving some things up over the last 50 years, mainly because I knew this day was coming, I just wasn’t sure when. You all know that I was one for money. We never had much, so when I made a little extra, I was

Personalized Nutrition And Exercise Plan Essay

For as long as I can remember, I have always had some sort of struggle with my weight. When I was younger, I was a top ranked gymnast and it was extremely important for me to maintain a low, yet healthy weight. I managed to be successful with that for years up until the time that I got severely injured ultimately forcing me to quit competing. Upon quitting gymnastics, I hit puberty, my body drastically changed, and access weight has been an issue ever since. The birth of my two children has not helped my struggle with weight as I had gained 40 pounds with each pregnancy. As you can see, my outstanding weight issue is what will be discussed in this paper. Up until now my diet has consisted of whatever and how much of whatever I chose to eat. I have never paid attention to calories, nutritional facts, or the size of portions. I have always just eaten what I wanted to eat until I had felt like I had had enough. Although I struggle with my weight, I have never been considered â€Å"fat† by those around me. My height is 5 feet 4 inches and my weight is 175 pounds. When I enter this information into a BMI calculator it gives me the body mass index of 30 which is considered moderately obese. Just hearing the word obese gives me a horrible feeling and makes me want to cry. I have never considered myself obese. However, at the same time I am constantly disgusted with my body. Throughout my journey through this class I have been able to think of many goals to set for myself to allow me to be healthier. First, I will start with my nutritional goals. The first nutritional goal I will talk about is my daily caloric intake. From now on, I plan to limit my daily calories to 1200 making sure I do not fall below the 1200 count. I realize how important it is to consume at least 1200 calories a day; falling below the 1200 calorie count can lead to dangerous, unhealthy weight loss as well as poor nutrition. My second nutritional goal is to pay attention to the percentages of each thing I am supposed to include in my diet such as protein, fiber, vitamins, and so on. For example, I want to make sure I consume the recommended 45 grams of protein and be careful that I do not exceed this amount. Staying within my recommended nutritional needs is important for a successful weight loss. Next, I will move on to the goals I have set for myself when it comes to exercise. As mentioned in a previous assignment, I usually try to take Zumba classes twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays. These classes are a minimum of an hour in length. I have talked to my instructor and found out that Zumba burns a minimum of 500 calories an hour for the weight range that I am currently in. Burning 500 calories in an hour is amazing and definitely helpful when it comes to losing unwanted weight. I plan to stick with my two Zumba classes a week. My second exercise goal is to spend 30 minutes each morning, just after waking, doing some sit-ups, push-ups, and crunches. My husband, who is a huge health and workout fanatic, has informed me that doing a short workout first thing in the morning helps kick up your metabolism. Lastly, the most important goal I could possibly set for myself would be to increase my water consumption. I have never been a fan of water because I have always thought of it as something will a dull taste. There are weeks when I can go without drinking any water. It seems as though I get my hydration from foods, some juice, but mostly soda pop. Soda pop is, by far, my worst addiction. Every time that I eat I feel as though I need to drink a pop with my food. I plan on eliminating pop from my diet and replacing it with water. Certain actions will be required to ensure I reach my goals. I will start planning out meals and making sure they have the appropriate amount of calories needed. When it comes to shopping for groceries and ingredients, I will take the extra time needed to carefully organize a shopping list that way I can avoid buying compulsively. This will make it easier to not only eat healthier, but buy healthier so that I do not have any high calorie, diet blowing snacks hidden in the house. With any goals that you set in life there will always be times when you run into complications. When it comes to my exercising goals I feel as though my family and children may complicate some of my plans. I cannot necessarily attend a Zumba class while my husband is at work and a sitter cannot be found. There may also be times when we are on the run and healthy food just is not an option at the time. Holiday meals are also a time when my caloric intake may be higher than normal. I just have to realize that even if I do mess up every now, or choose to splurge, I must continue on and not give up or lose motivation to complete my goals. In order to determine whether or not I succeed with my goals I will need ways to measure the success. I will start out by taking measurements of my body including areas like my waist, hips, thighs, arms, and chest. Even though I may not see a huge difference on the scale the inch measurements taken will be the deciding factor. I will also plan to include my husband and family in my goals so that they are informed about them and can help aid me in the journey of completing them. If friends and family know it will make it easier to stay motivated. Failure to truly commit myself to this plan can lead to morbid obesity. There are so many health risks that include heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease, gallstones, osteoarthritis, gout, and breathing problems such as sleep apnea and asthma. Staying healthy is so important to me now more than ever. I want to live long healthy lives and be able to watch my children grow up, graduate, get married, and have my grandchildren. Obesity is such a serious problem and surprisingly it affects over 34% of American adults (Hellmich, 2010). That number is astonishing to me! I feel as though this plan will work out great for personal weight loss. Experts have spoken about how weight can be loss with simply dieting, however, they have also pointed out the dieting accompanied with exercise will increase your results (â€Å"Exercise and Weight Loss,† n.d.). By decreasing my caloric intake and increasing the amount of physical activity I can be sure that I will shed some, if not all, of the unwanted pounds, not to mention, live a healthier life. With some exercise and diet plans changing circumstances can force you to make alterations to your plan. Many people may include physical activity that can only take place outdoors; however, I have set goals that can be performed either inside or outside all year long. The changing seasons will not have an effect on the diet and exercise plan I have laid out for myself. The only circumstance that may slightly affect my diet and exercise plan would be pregnancy. My husband and I have discussed the possibility of having another child sometime within the next two years. If pregnancy does arise then I will have to make alterations to my plan such as adding 300 calories to my diet a day as well as avoid doing sit ups because of the possible damaging effects to the abdomen. I can, however, still participate in my Zumba classes which will be an outstanding exercise. In conclusion, as outlined above, I have set forth an easy yet effective nutritional and exercise plan. I truly believe that if I alter my diet to eating the recommended 1200 calories a day and increase my physical activity I will be successful in my weight loss. It is important for me to keep in mind that the 1200 calories should consist of healthy foods not exceeding my recommended protein, fat, and other intakes. I have my heart set on losing weight and finding a healthier me and with this mindset I know I can succeed! References BMI Calculator Plus: Personalized BMI for Your Body Type and Metabolism. Assignment Unit

This brings a number advantages and disadvantages. Advantages Disadvantages Increases motivation ( when somebody gets raised, other employees become motivated to work hard in order to prolong their career in the organization), this can also raise the productivity of a firm More cost effective Less time consuming People already familiar with the business and how it operates (which in turn saves costs for training staff) Business already knows the strengths and weaknesses of candidates.Higher amount of salaries to be paid Competition for better vacancy between employees may prevent them from efficient team work and so damage a firm Causes other vacancies in your organization to be filled May cause resentment amongst candidates not appointed Limits the number of potential applicants External Recruitment – is a process of filling existing job vacancies with people from outside of the organization. This also brings a number of advantages and disadvantages to the firm. Advantages Out side people may bring new creative ideas argue pool of workers from which to find the best candidate People from outside may have a wider range of experience Bringing in fresh talent from outside of the company roster can help motivate the current employees to achieve more in hopes of obtaining the next promotional opportunity. More time-consuming More expensive process due to advertising. Ewe staff trainings costs and interview required Selection process may occur to be not effective enough in order to reveal the lost candidate Job center – is a place where people who are looking for work can go to get advice on finding a job, and to look at advertisements placed by people who are looking for new employees. Reference: http://www. Illuminations. Com/dictionary/English/job-centre Recruitment agency – is a business that works for organizations to find people for jobs when the organizations need them.Reference: http:// Consultant – a person who is not employed by t he business, but brought in to provide advice. Applying for a job There are several ways Of how people could apply for a job. These include application online (e. G. Via email or by the professional en;irking site), by telephone conversation and in person. To apply for a job in CEQ candidates have first to fill in the application form including C.V. and references, they then deed to email a covering letter to the school. All the applicants will then be shortlist and some will be invited for an interview where the second stage of selection process takes place. To apply for a job to 02, people have to write a covering letter and send it via email or upload to the website where job advertisement is published. Then they need to ring the firm and talk to the firm's representative in order to find out more detailed information on the recruitment process for this particular job. Where CEQ advertises The college advertises its vacancies on their website and on the TEST website ND TEST newspa per. There is a significant benefit coming from advertising on the CEQ website as it is free and so enables all people who are interested in working for CEQ to look at information about the school and be aware of when a vacancy occurs. Advertising on the TEST website and their newspaper is expensive, however, it is a good value for money as it is a national newspaper and the website can be accessed internationally, and so CEQ will reach its target market The only disadvantage is the cost of advertising through TEST.The cost, though, should outweigh the number of applicants applying for a job. Internal recruitment for CEQ Internal recruitment in CEQ takes place when someone takes a maternity leave, when someone is promoted and the vacancy arises or when a cover needed (such as for long term sickness). There is also a possibility of transferring boarding staff or teachers from one place to another if his/her skills and specifications allow this to happen. So, for example, house parent of Sixth Form girls' boarding house with a time and experienced gained may become the Head of Sixth Form Girls.Such a high vacancy imposes more responsibilities and so requires a perfect understanding of all the school rules ND their application to student Therefore, internal recruitment occurs to be more suitable, as candidate is already familiar with his responsibilities. This method of recruitment is also much quicker, as it's easier to find suitable candidate, as they all have been through selection process. External recruitment for CEQ In order to recruit workers externally, CEQ can use the recruitment agencies (such as Hays Recruitment), this will help to choose suitable candidate from a variety of applications. It saves time, as the agency does the selection process part and then matches employers to employees. This method of recruitment ay be used in CEQ when the college decides to provide new subject, therefore qualified staff has to be hired. Also CEQ may recruit externally if it needs to expand its labor force, this usually happens when the number of students in school increases. New experienced candidates may bring new teaching techniques or creative ideas. However, External type of recruitment is more expensive, as advertising takes place through mass media.Internal recruitment for 02 02 is a large company and so has a huge number of employees, therefore it may be easier for 02 to recruit internally choosing from a wide range of its in- Tate applicants. This enables the firm to save time and money (e. G. Training costs), as the candidate is already familiar with the system and how it does work, so he can effectively work towards the aims and objectives of the company. 02 may also decide to promote an employee, therefore vacancy will arise and workers will become more motivated.External recruitment for 02 02 can recruit externally using a phone interviews in order to seek more applicants; it then needs to monitor candidates in order to narrow the nu mber of applicants who then will be invited for an interview. When needed o recruit externally 02 may place its advertisement in different job centers to attract potential worker's attention, it also may invite recruitment consultants in order to select an appropriate candidate for a job. Those consultants interview the candidates, check their backgrounds, whether they were involved in crime or not and finally match them to company. 3. Planning and conducting recruitment Vacancies may arise due to the number of reasons such as: Creation of new job position Promotion of an employee which may cause a chain reaction of vacancies down the hierarchy High unemployment rates Salary difference between the competitors. New business requirements Low productivity and big workload Lack of high-qualified workers.CEQ vacancies may arise when someone go on maternity leave or become promoted, a new subject may be introduced in the school, increasing number of students, staff may leave or be retired which causes a staff turnover. When a high turnover due to introducing new job titles takes place, CEQ is likely to recruit externally. Similarly, 02 may fill the jobs gaps by recruiting externally if someone has a long-time sickness or when the business is expanding. An example of recent job vacancy in CEQ: Reference: http://www. Jackboots. Co. UK/job/626096/chef/ Example of recent vacancy in 02: Reference: http://www. Ethologic. Com/Jobsharer/ Unintentionally. Asps? Job I d lye Candidates can apply for these vacancies online using the websites in the links. When matching themselves to the personal specification and satisfied with the job description, they will then upload their C.V. to the website and wait for the invitation for the interview to Come. 4. Conclusion Considering all the information found in the research, we can conclude that both external and internal methods of recruitment have their downsides at en time while can benefit the company at another. To my mind, the exte rnal recruitment is more suitable for 02 as it is the international company which has its franchised stores all around the world so due to geographical immobility of most part of its current workers they will need to recruit people from outside anyway. External recruitment is also linked with ass's aim to expand. While CEQ is the local business and so it's more likely to prefer to use internal method of recruitment in order to save money and time (for training and selection process) and have staffs with an experience of working for CEQ.However, there are also exceptions of the rule. So, whether to recruit externally or internally fully depends on the specific situation. So, it's really important to consider the aim of the firm, the type of the vacancy it needs to find the candidate for, it's time and financial resources to go through recruitment process when deciding which method of recruitment is more appropriate. Task 2 1. Introduction to the Business department 2013-14 Here Mrs. Bradford-Ryder -?The head of Business, Economics, CIT and Enterprise introduces the Business department 2013-2014.As we can see, a to of plans have been developed including changes in B ETC Business course structure. As a student I faced these changes when I first arrived to the school. The Business department grown rapidly due to the increasing number of students willing to take courses in a Business & Economics related areas. Staff had to be recruited internally, as some previous fill-time staff left for other jobs, a maternity leave had to be covered and also some of the staff have been promoted.Due to those changes the new system was introduced in order to keep up With the productivity of Business Department 2. Explanation of changes to the department and reasons behind the need to recruit staff internally and externally From these overprints we can see how Business department has experiencing changes in order to comply with development plan and achieve all of its targets. As th e number of students increased rapidly, they recruited externally new workers in order to expand their labor force and so to provide Economics and business lessons to all students who seek this .By introducing new job titles such as Key Stage 4 Student Progress Coordinator they became able to control and record student SUccess or help them to solve robber more effectively. Working with individuals will with a time which increases the productivity of the whole Key Stage. The promotion of staff (which is internal method of recruitment) will motivate other members of Department work more efficiently in order to experience promotion in future, high motivation may increases productive of work for the whole department. While internal recruitment took place, the new job gaps arose and caused the department to hire even more new workers.
